Hayley Kiyoko is back and she’s giving us ‘90s schoolgirl vibes by paying respects to a cult classic film.

Kiyoko is one of the front runners in the rising tide of LGBT singers taking on the music world. While Troye Sivan, MNEK, Holland, Sam Smith, Kehlani, and more are gaining recognition, it was Kiyoko who came up with the trendy term #20GayTeen.

And now, the trendsetter is back with a new single titled “I Wish.” The song’s lyrics speak of a toxic lover and the desire, and wish, to find real love.

“You don’t like when I decide to speak my mind
No, you don’t like that I do what I want like all the time
We butt heads ’cause you don’t pay me no attention
And you’re selfish with your affection.”

The chorus then goes:

“I wish, I wish, I wish I found love
‘Cause I wake up, up in the morning time
And there’s nobody here by my side.”

On top of dropping the new The Coven-inspired music video, which you can find below. Kiyoko celebrated her fans by hosting a pop-up experience.

“My fans have become such a solid community of support,” Kiyoko told PRIDE. “I felt this pop-up experience would be a really fun way to launch the new single and bring everyone together in the world of the ‘I Wish’ video.”

“It’s so tough when you love someone but aren’t given that same love in return,” Kiyoko said of the new single. ” The video for ‘I Wish’ captures these moments where we lean on our friends and family as a support group to help us feel loved and less alone.”
