Los Angeles has much to offer the queer vagabond in us all. From the thriving nightlife scene in West Hollywood, to the newer bars and clubs downtown, there are lots of reasons to spend a long weekend in this California oasis of culture.

Here, we list three spots in the Los Angeles area to stay when you party and play.

Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills

A short Uber ride away from the watering holes of West Hollywood, the Avalon tucked away in Beverly Hills is a cute boutique spot with loads of history for the nostalgic in us all.

Back in the 1950’s, Marilyn Monroe lived actually lived there for a period of about three years. During that time, the property was a residential motel known as the Beverly Carlton that first opened in 1948 and was designed by legendary graphic designer Alvin Lustig.  And while the hotel was actually considered to be a moderately priced accommodation for its time, besides Monroe, such stars as Mae West, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz often stayed there as well.

Reopened in 1998 as the Avalon, today the boutique offering is immersed in high design and situated around a boomerang-shaped pool. Downstairs, the delicious Viviane restaurant and bar awaits you, where you’ll find a sincere kind of glamour.

Le Meridien Delfina Santa Monica

Not the queerest of neighborhoods, Santa Monica is a gorgeous place to stake your claim while you’re in the Los Angeles area, and there is no better spot than Le Meridien’s local outpost. With sweeping views of the ocean and the hilly landscape in your room’s POV, nothing beats this vantage.

The hotel offers free beach bikes for you to cruise down to the shoreline. To avoid getting sandy by the beach, lounge by the heated salt water outdoor pool instead. In the rooms, contemporary decor, luxury bedding and interesting pops of color await you. And sure, the neighborhood isn’t the gayest (it’s for sure no WeHo) but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some sexy DL trade awaiting you on Grindr.

JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A.

While you’re in town for RuPaul’s DragCon, or any other happening at the convention center, there’s no better spot than the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live. Steps away from the convention center, the location of this swanky and sophisticated luxury hotel is not to be beaten, as it’s right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Think Las Vegas vibes.
