A new trans-inclusive Gillette commercial captures the heartwarming moment a father teaches his transgender son how to shave for the first time.

The new Pride-targeted ad, “First Shave,” is a part of the shaving supply company’s #MyBestSelf campaign.

The ad features Samson Bonkeabantu Brown, a young Canadian trans man, and his father.

“Whenever, wherever, however it happens—your first shave is special,” reads the ad’s tagline.

“Growing up I was always trying to figure out what kind of man I wanted to become, and I’m still trying to figure out what kind of man that I want to become,” says Brown, an activist who works in the arts.

“I went into my transition just wanting to be happy,” he continues. “I’m glad I am at the point where I’m able to shave… I’m at the point in my manhood where I’m actually happy.”

“Don’t be scared,” Brown’s father tells him as he handles the razor. “Shaving is about being confident.”

“Thank you so much Gillette for allowing me to share such an important moment in a man’s life with my father,” Samson commented underneath the new ad.

“I look forward to the great things you’re going to continue doing to encourage us all to be our best selves,” he added.

“Thank you for sharing your story, Samson!” Gillette responded. “We’re honored to showcase this special moment between you and your father and are proud to have you as a partner. Thank you for your courage and confidence in sharing your journey to becoming your best self!”
