No one’s irreplaceable
Hello beautiful people. I bring you all some terrible news: You are replaceable. I know that sounds shitty to say out loud, but it is true. We are all replaceable, in every aspect of our lives.
So many people have it in their heads that they are the only person in the world that can do what THEY do. But realizing that no one is irreplaceable is a great lesson to learn. Let me tell you how I learned it.
This was years ago, and I had only been doing drag a couple of years. It was a Friday night, and one of the other drag queens called in sick. The show director called me and asked if I was available to work.
On this particular night I got the call at about 8 p.m., so I threw on a mug, grabbed my dragbag, fluffed up a wig and was there by call time. The energy in the dressing room was off that night. It was too quiet — until it wasn’t.
Apparently, right before I got there, a couple of the girls had been arguing. There were a couple of hateful but witty barbs thrown between the two pissed-off queens.
I was clueless as to why they were so pissed off, but it had something to do with one queen insisting that she should go later in the show, even though she was completely ready and scheduled to open. (Back then, the crowd didn’t really show up until midway through the first show, so everyone wanted to go later in the show.)
Queen A didn’t want to open, regardless of what the schedule said. Queen B wasn’t budging and refused to switch. Then they were both yelling.
The show director stepped in and told them to stop arguing like children and told Queen A to suck it up and open the show as scheduled.
Queen A quite literally lost her mind.
She went on a tirade about how we were lucky to have her in the show, that she should be used more in the advertisements for the show since she was the most popular and most talented person on the cast.
That last part got a good ol’ chuckle out of Queen B, which infuriated Queen A even more. She snatched the microphone
