The Canadian film producer described the day as “emotional” as he posted a picture of himself holding hands with his two sons.

After nearly three decades of living in the UK, David Furnish was finally sworn in as a British citizen yesterday.

He first started his relationship with Elton John back in 1993, and the pair entered into a civil partnership in 2005.

Then, when same-sex marriage was legalised in the UK, they got married in 2014.

“A very emotional morning for me,” David posted on Instagram with a picture of himself and his sons Zachary and Elijah looking at a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

“As an immigrant, I moved to the UK more than 27 years years ago. I was welcomed with open arms,” he added.

“This spirit of acceptance, tolerance and diversity has allowed me to achieve a life beyond my wildest dreams.

“I am a very blessed man, and I am extremely proud to now carry both British and Canadian passports.”

Although he doesn’t reference it directly, many saw the message as touching upon the current immigration controversy in the United States, after President Trump banning entry for citizens from seven mainly Muslim countries.
