The debate about the origins of homosexuality has long puzzled scientists and it was just recently that a new study has been released claiming to have been discovered the real importance of homosexuality in a healthy society. Richard Dawkins was explaining few years ago that the gay gene is not actually a gay gene but an adaptable one. According to the environment, this gene can alter and modify its functions for a better adaptation of the individual at the given environmental features.
“The gay gene that manifests itself now in an urban environment in homosexual tendencies might, in a very different environment, on an African plain, have manifested itself in a very different way. Genes are not that deterministic, they can show themselves in one way under one environmental circumstance and in a different way under another one” Dawkins declared in a 2011 interview. Of course, this was but one out of the three theories, aside the “gay uncle” and the “sneaky fucker” theories.
Now, new studies have provided new evidences in the support of the claim that not only that homosexuality is inheritable but it seems like women posing these sexual characteristics are more reproductively active and more efficient in helping the reproductive aspect of the society.
Paradoxically, that is. What they have discovered is that the SSB, which is the shortcut from same-sex sexual behaviors, is transmitted over generations mainly because of two reasons, called overdominance and sexual antagonism. There is one particular aspect that seems to be quite interesting about this theory. It has been proven that males associated with homosexual behaviors are strongly linked to producing highly fertile females and this may be one of the reasons for which a society’s gayness persists throughout the generations. Now, you would think, what makes homosexual males reproduce with females? Are not they exclusively gay? How can they reproduce? First of all, keep in mind that a homosexual individual has no problem in producing offspring. There is nothing holding him back from doing so if needed. Homosexuals also want kids of their own.
Now the theory is that the gay gene initially only produced bisexuals and over the time it evolved, according to a more loose environment, where the reproduction rates are no longer critical, to a fully gay gene, giving birth to homosexuals.
The conclusion seems to be quite interesting and that is that gays seem to have a crucial importance in the evolutionary process, by conferring a plus of fertility in women. The study has been published in The Royal Society.
