Sadly, these men haven’t discovered how to fly or how to turn invisible…yet

There are thousands of men who believe not masturbating gives you superpowers.

As porn, sex, and gay dating apps overwhelm our lives, there are four gay guys who have decided to try life without sexual self-care.

They are a part of a community of NoFappers, with some participants calling themselves ‘Fapstronauts’. The group of 200,000 subscribers say abstaining from watching porn, having sex, or masturbating can ‘seize control of your sexuality and turn it into superpowers.’

As we’re in the middle of New Life November (or as some call it No Nut November), the group are encouraging new guys to see if they can go the month without pleasuring themselves.

Does not masturbating really give you ‘superpowers’?

Scientists believe moderate masturbation is healthy, can ease anxiety and stress and aids sleep. You are more likely to have a liberal view of sex and sexuality.

Men who ejaculate regularly are also less at risk of prostate cancer.

But for this community of fapstronauts, restraining themselves will hopefully result in what they call ‘rebooting’ – giving them a sense of well-being.

For some, this belief is almost religious or spiritual. And many of the men on Reddit’s NoFap group sing the praises of their life choice.

The men claim they get ‘superpowers’. These include a confidence boost, increased sexual interest from others, creativity and being more at ease in social situations.

Alex, 32

Alex said he always wanted to learn a language, and through not masturbating, he’s now on the way to learning several.

‘I’m a recovering Grindr addict,’ the 32-year-old from Texas told Gay Star News. ‘Every day, even at work, I was scrolling through looking for the next guy.

‘If I couldn’t find one, I would masturbate.

‘Every day it was non-stop, and I realized that I was wasting my life. What was I doing? I had goals, and I was wasting it.’

So Alex went cold turkey. And he soon found he had more time on his hands. He claims to have not masturbated in 95 days.

‘Ever since I stopped going on dating apps, I feel a lot happier. I decided whenever I wanted to jerk off I would study Spanish.

‘Now I’m nearly fluent.’

Jack, 40s

Jack has a similar story. In his 40s, he feels the gay community ‘constantly glorifies sex’.

Since giving up sex and masturbation three years ago, he says he now meditates every morning and evening.

‘It’s difficult to describe how I feel, it’s like I’ve reached a higher plane,’ he said.

‘I used to think meditation was spiritual bogus, but now I do it everyday. I now own 12 self-improvement books and regularly take cold showers.

‘It’s like I’m a completely different person.

‘I’m so thankful I’ve broken through that and now I’m no longer wasting my time on unhealthy habits.’

Chris, 29

Chris, 29, came to the group of men who stop themselves from masturbating a little differently.

He found it through his fetish – chastity.

Chris regularly locks a cage around his penis, so he is stopped from masturbating or orgasm, and gives the key to his boyfriend.

‘I’ve always liked the idea of someone having control over me, especially my dick,’ Chris, a 29-year-old said.

‘But with chastity, it’s constant. The cage is always there to remind you that you can’t cum unless someone says so.

‘Now I don’t want to ever cum.’

While Chris looks at the No-Fap subreddit for guidance, he still has sex with his boyfriend.

‘The cage makes you feel so submissive. When I’m wearing it, sex is easier. You get really into sub mode, especially after not cumming for a few weeks. My boyfriend loves it!’

Brian, 26

For Brian, a 26-year-old, he said he would describe himself as a ‘moderate no-fapper’.

‘I actually got inspired to give up jerking off after not drinking for a month,’ he said.

‘I thought if I had the will-power to not drink, I could look at other areas of my life which had gotten out of control.

‘So I decided to go for a week, and then a month. My record is 40 days.

‘It definitely helps to give me more focus and energy, and I reckon it makes me more attractive to guys.’

What superpower would you actually give up masturbating for?

  • Flying
  • Invisibility
  • Teleportation
  • Mind-reading
  • Telekinesis (moving stuff with your mind)
  • Greater ‘focus’ or more energy
