In the past three months, five states have passed draconian legislation restricting women’s access to abortion, in some cases as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Georgia, Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Alabama seem hellbent on denying women their constitutional right to do what they want with their own bodies. In some states, lawmakers want to force women to have babies against their wills, even in cases of rape and incest. In others, they want to impose 99-year prison sentences on...

Lori LightfootA new political star has risen in the midwest: Lori Lightfoot, the first ever African American woman, and the first ever lesbian to hold the office of Mayor of Chicago. Lightfoot, 56, was sworn into the office earlier this week. Last fall, she bested 13 other candidates to win the office, coming in first in all 50 of the city’s wards. In her inaugural address, Lightfoot promised to enact her reform platform to the city, the nation’s third largest. “We...

Yesterday, Senate Republicans voted to allow a confirmation vote on Howard Nielson, Trump’s 51-year-old judicial nominee for a lifetime seat on the U.S. District Court of Utah. Nielson supports torture and opposes abortion and firearm regulation and he’s also queerphobic AF. He’s so anti-LGBTQ that 15 national, state and local LGBT organizations — including Lambda Legal, The Community of LGBT Centers and the National Centers for Transgender Equality and Lesbian Rights — sent a letter to the Senate asking the Republican-led chamber not to...

Not content to allow Mayor Pete Buttigieg to win over a Fox News townhall crowd, the network has slammed the South Bend, IN mayor as a “clown.” Buttigieg won big at a Fox News townhall meeting over the weekend, earning applause and cheers from the crowd for his candid remarks about abortion and immigration. He also called out Fox News personalities Laura Ingram and Tucker Carlson for their own anti-immigration remarks. That didn’t sit well with the hosts of Fox & Friends,...

One Brazilian politician has found the courage to condemn the hateful attacks on the LGBTQ community by current President Jair Bolsonaro. His name is David Miranda. With violence against LGBTQ people on the rise in Brazil, Miranda’s presence in the Brazilian Congress as an out-gay, black man already carries heavy risk. His predecessor and friend Jean Wyllys, who also happens to be a black gay man, had to flee the country after numerous death threats earlier this year. His friend...

Pete Buttgieg completely won over the room during a town hall hosted by Chris Wallace on Fox News last night. Prior to Mayor Pete’s appearance, Donald Trump took to Twitter to slam the network for “wasting airtime” on the out gay candidate. Asked by Wallace about what he thinks of Trump’s tweets, Buttigieg simply responded: “I don’t care.” To which the audience responded with thunderous applause. “It is a very effective way to command the attention of the media,” he continued. “We...

This just in: Fox News propagandist Laura Ingraham can dish it out but she definitely cannot take it. The 55-year-old TV anchor ripped into 2020 hopeful Pete Buttigieg on her show last night after he took a swipe at her during his Fox News town hall on Sunday evening. It all started when Buttigieg told Chris Wallace that he had to give it serious thought before agreeing to appear on the conservative news network. “You know a lot of folks in my party...

Yesterday, the Texas House passed HB 3172, a bill known as the s0-called “Save Chick-fil-A” bill. It forbids any level of government from taking actions against any group based on their religious or political beliefs. Because the bill already passed the Senate, it’s now headed to the desk of Republican state Governor Greg Abbott where he’ll almost certainly sign it into law. And it’ll also most certainly blow up in Republicans’ faces too. Basically, the bill is sort of a back-door...

Earlier this week, out politician Jerry Windle abruptly resigned from his seat on the Morrisville Town Council in North Carolina halfway though his four-year term, claiming he was sick and tired of being bullied by his homophobic colleague while his other colleagues did nothing to stop it. In an emotional statement given at a town hall meeting on Monday, Windle, who was first elected in 2017, told his fellow council members, “I cannot in good conscience serve on a council...

A May 24, 2017 ruling by Taiwan’s Supreme Court declared the country Civil Code’s definition of marriage — between a man and a woman — as unconstitutional because it failed to protect all human rights. The Court gave Taiwanese legislators two years to legalize it, but Prime Minister Tsai Ing-wen (who ran on an equality platform) and other legislators were too timid to take action. Their inaction allowed anti-gay religious petitioners to turn the issue into a non-binding November 24 ballot...

A local politician from North Carolina abruptly stepped down from his post this week after he claimed he could no longer stand the bullying he’s been suffering at the hands of one of his colleagues. Jerry Windle is, er, was a member of the Morrisville Town Council in North Carolina. That is until earlier this week when he announced his immediate resignation halfway though his four-year term. In an emotional statement given at a Town Hall meeting on Monday, Windle, who was...

The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives has just passed the groundbreaking Equality Act, legislation designed to amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include protections for LGBTQ Americans. If signed into law, discrimination against queer people would become illegal nationwide. The bill passed with a vote of 236-173 with most Democrats voting in favor. Legislators had sought to pass versions of the bill as early as 1974. At the time, that version included only language prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation....

arzola

Venezuelan artist Daniel Arzola performed his latest collection of posters "No Soy Tu Chiste (I Am Not Your Joke)" where sexuality goes side by side with politics. This collection bears a very important message. It's "artivism" a term which Arzola uses to coin his unique approach. "Since I was a teenager I had been creating art with a purpose, with a social voice, a cry in a universal language," Arzola said in his latest interview. "I started with poems, then photography, and finally illustration....
