The singer-songwriter wants you to vote for equality.

As part of Vevo’s Why I Vote campaign, Kesha opened up about why she’s voting and the importance of getting as many other people to vote as possible.

“In this election, especially, I feel like you’re choosing between someone who is promising to build walls and someone who is hopeful,” she said. “And if those are my two options, I definitely want to go with hope.”

She reflected on being bullied and struggling with her own sexuality in high school.

“I remember being bullied about what I wore, and what music I listened to… I struggled finding my sexuality. I was just so scared. What if I am gay? What does that mean? I already get bullied—if I’m gay on top of this…?”

She explained her beliefs simply and elegantly: “Love is love. Period.”

Kesha then spoke about marriage equality and the need to repeal HB2 in North Carolina.

“We need to protect the laws that have been groundbreaking… It’s bigger than just who’s sitting in the White House.”

She finished simply but strongly: “I’m Kesha, and I vote to protect equal rights for every human.”
