The Queen biopic is to be shown in selective theatres in China without any homosexual content. If it’s popular, it could be picked up for a wider release. Bohemian Rhapsody is already on illegal streaming sites and torrent sites in China.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, all footage will be cut from the Chinese release, along with those depicting drug use. “Showing excessive drinking, smoking and other bad habits” is one of the banned reasons in State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) ‘s censorship guidelines.

Local broadcasterd has been criticised for censoring Rami Malek ‘s Oscar acceptance speech, translating “gay man” to “special group”.

SAPPRFT have a history of censoring different things, including male TV stars’ earrings, because it’s not masculine.
