A bride has refused to hire a makeup artist after finding out she is a lesbian.

It all started when an anonymous bride-to-be contacted 22-year-old Kristian Cardenas, from Lubbock, Texas, to inquire about her makeup business.

‘Hello,’ the conversation starts, according to screenshots from Twitter. ‘My friend [redacted] gave me your contact info. You did her wedding and I was wondering if you could give me prices for my wedding.’

Cardenas quoted her prices for her wedding and then linked to her Facebook page with her previous work.

The bride then wrote: ‘I have a few questions I was wondering if you could answer.’

‘Yes ma’am,’ Cardenas replied. ‘What are they?’

The bride responded: ‘Are you gay?’

A confused Cardenas then wrote back: ‘Yes ma’am, I am. I’m sorry but what does that have to do with your wedding or my services?’

‘Oh I don’t want a gay person doing my wedding,’ the bride responded. ‘I saw your Facebook and I couldn’t tell if you we’re (sic) or weren’t gay.’

Shocked, Cardenas simply responded: ‘Okay, that’s totally fine. You have a nice day.’

But the bride wasn’t done.

‘I still have more questions,’ she shot back. ‘How can you be a Latina woman and be gay? You do know being gay is a sin, correct?’

She then added to her rant: ‘I will pray for you, my friend. I’m sorry that you’ve chosen a path that’s going to send you straight to hell.

‘I think you do beautiful makeup but I just can’t have someone who’s gay being party of my special day. The wedding is in a church and I don’t want you walking into my church.

‘If you, at any chance, change your mind about being gay, let me know please so I can book you,’ the bride texted.

At this point, Cardenas blocked the bride’s phone number.

‘I was so hurt,’ Cardenas exclusively told Gay Star News, via Twitter. ‘I cried and was so mad.’

She then added: ‘I have very tough skin, and feel like I can handle a lot, but when she told me to change who I am and then she’ll book me, I got upset. It’s so sad that someone had to be so rude to me, and they didn’t even know me.’

Cardenas said there were so many things that she wanted to say but she thought it best just to let it go.

The makeup artist then decided to post the screenshots on both Facebook and Twitter as a message for everyone to be kinder to each other, especially the people in her home town.

‘I feel like it’s so hard for the LGBTI community to be accepted here,’ she said.

At the time of writing, her tweet has almost 300,000 likes and more than 65,000 retweets.

One person replied to her tweet: ‘You are so much nicer/more professional to that shit human than I would’ve been. You should charge more- your work is bomb and $115 is way too low for both hair and makeup.’

Another responded in support: ‘I’m so sorry this person spoke to you this way. I promise we aren’t all like this! You’re loved.’

Then another tweeted: ‘I’m so sorry you had to go through that! You are amazing.’

On the reaction to her tweet, Cardenas said: ‘I had no idea it’d go viral. I know so many people don’t have a voice in this matter, but I want to be their voice.’

The makeup artist then added: ‘Speaking about the daily struggles I get being a lesbian Latina is something I would like to share with the world.

‘I’ve been getting so many people’s messages about their struggles and it breaks my heart as to how people can be cruel. I wish everyone to be kind to one another,’ she said.
