Ryan-Reynolds

Form an orderly queue, guys: Marvel’s first pansexual superhero has every chance of pursuing a same-sex relationship.

Ryan Reynolds – who plays the immortal character – is happy for the joke-cracking hero to have a boyfriend in future films.

“What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else,” Ryan told the latest issue of Variety. “I think that could be played up more. He’s an outsider in every way, shape, and form.”

In the first film – which took a staggering £637 million ($783m) at the box office globally following its release last February – Deadpool falls in love with Vanessa, who is played by Morena Baccarin.

But Ryan explained that the superhero – who is known by the name Wade Wilson out of costume – didn’t necessarily fall in love with her because she’s a woman.

“The only thing you have to consider going forward is: ‘Are we being faithful to the canon that we nurtured and created?’” he said.

“One of those things is that Deadpool is in love with Vanessa. Deadpool isn’t in love with Vanessa just because she’s a woman. He’s in love with Vanessa because he loves her.”

Major Hollywood blockbusters largely shy away from depicting LGBT+ relationships in fear of alienating audiences in countries where gay rights are less tolerated.

But Ryan Reynolds is in no way put off by that.

“That’s not really a problem for us, because we were banned in China,” he said. “We were rated ‘Fuck you!’ in China.”

However, what Ryan does care about is making sure Deadpool retains his sense of flamboyancy in every scene – even when a stunt double is playing him.

“Deadpool is so feminine. At least in how I saw him,” Ryan said. “I’d say, ‘When you land, can you sashay away?’”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Ryan Reynolds has said that he’d be happy for Deadpool to have a boyfriend.

“I certainly wouldn’t be the guy standing in the way of that. That would be great,” he said of the idea last February.

Deadpool 2 is scheduled to start filming in 2017 for a 2 March 2018 release.
