LGBTI advocates in Australia featured prominently in the Queen’s Birthday Honors list in Australia.
Activist Ivan Hinton-Teoh was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Hinton-Teoh was the deputy director of Australian Marriage Equality, which battled for .
He later co-founded LGBTI campaign group Just Equal.
The honors list also recognized lawyer and activist Anna Brown.
As Director of Legal Advocacy at the Human Rights Law Centre and co-chair of the Equality Campaign Brown campaigned for equal marriage in Australia.
Brown continues to campaign on LGBTI issues for advocacy organization Equality Australia.
Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia chair Associate Professor Ruth McNair also gained recognition.
The list also includes: Feast Adelaide Queer Arts and Cultural Festival co-founder Margaret Fischer.
Victorian LGBTI Taskforce member James Gardiner. And, The Pinnacle Foundation co-founder Sean Linkson.
Queen Elizabeth II established the Order of Australia in 1975. Until then, Australian citizens received British honors.
This year’s list also recognized former prime minister Kevin Rudd.
