Modern Family just had its season eight premiere, but after all these years the series is still making headlines—this time by casting a transgender child actor.
In this week’s episode Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) daughter, Lily invites over her transgender friend Tom for a playdate.
Cam and Mitchell are so proud of themselves for raising a loving and accepting child, but of course in classic Modern Family fashion there is a misunderstanding and the couple mistakenly thinks that Lily may not be as open-minded as they thought.
Lily’s new friend, Tom will be played by transgender 8-year-old actor, Jackson Millarker.
The episode, entitled “A Stereotypical Day,” will air this Wednesday at 9/8c on ABC.
