“This is the end of the road for us.”
Khloe Kardashian is back helping people live their best lives on Season 2 of E!’s Revenge Body With Khloe Kardashian. On the show, the 33-year-old reality star pairs with trainers to improve contestants “in mind, body and spirit.”
On Sunday’s episode, she helped Mayank, a closeted gay man, shed more than 40 pounds and gain the confidence to come out.
Mayank says he became an “emotional eater” to deal with hiding his identity from his traditional Indian family: “I started eating a lot because I was emotional about it,” he told the now-pregnant star. Things got worse when his father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. “I just felt very uncomfortable and very bad, and I just turned to food.”
Kardashian paired Mayank with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson, who helped him ultimately lose 44 pounds. She also helped Mayank finally tell his family he’s gay and in a relationship.
“This whole experience had made me really understand who I am,” Mayank tells them. “That person is a gay man who’s in love with his boyfriend.”
In a touching moment, his parents affirmed their love and acceptance: “You’re my child and your happiness is my happiness,” his father said. “So I accept you. I accept you for what you are, and I want to see you happy.”
Revenge Body isn’t always heartwarming, though: Kardashian showed viewers a tougher side when she kicked a different gay man off the show for lying.
On Monday, a contestant named Joel told he he wanted to lose weight to get back at the “bitch-ass” boyfriend who dumped him. Khloe was a little put off, reminding him the show isn’t just about “exterior.” (The fact that his ex allegedly had leukemia might’ve also been a red flag.)
She decided to give Joel a chance, anyway, paring him with trainer Ashley Borden. But after Joel showed up late (and hungover) to his first workout, it was clear he wasn’t taking things seriously.
He turned on the waterworks, but Kardashian called him out for “acting.” And that’s when the truth came out: He made up the story about having a boyfriend with cancer.
“I don’t know what’s true or not anymore,” Kardashian told Joel as she showed him the door. “I just don’t think this journey is for you… This is the end of the road for us.”
On Twitter, she wrote, “So disrespectful!! Joel totally played us… and we have no time for fakers!”
