While there will always be voicing of homophobic and racist hatred, this is a reminder that when galvanised by a happy event, there are usually far more people out there who wish others well!!!

Last April, Noparuj Kaendi and Thorsten Mid found themselves at the center of a storm of online trolling when photos of them holding hands on the Bangkok Sky Train were posted up on Facebook.

The pair didn’t take the photos themselves – instead they were taken surreptitiously by another passenger – but the couple soon faced a barrage of racist and homophobic comments. We won’t repeat those comments here (there’s no point in fueling the fire of people who get a kick out of bullying others online, and the comments have been repeatedly posted elsewhere, resuscitating the event), but we’re happy to report that the pair have better news this week.

The couple posted up photographs on their Instagram account showing that they were married last week. The photos show the pair (one the former creative director of a Thai modelling agency, the other a model), happy to be celebrating their union, and they have since said that they were “overwhelmed” by the kindness and support they’d received since April.

“We’re just another average couple working hard to get to be together,” said Kaendi.

The couple married in Germany and since they posted photos of the event on their social media networks, there has been a huge and increasing swell of support for them from friends, family and followers from across the world, hopefully drowning out the hateful voices they had to endure previously.

While there will always be voicing of homophobic and racist hatred, this is a reminder that when galvanised by a happy event, there are usually far more people out there who wish others well.

We wish them all the best in their married life together!
