Rio-Proposal

The first same-sex proposal has taken place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games!

After crowds dispersed at the women’s rugby sevens final on Monday, Marjorie Enya walked onto the pitch and asked Brazil player – and partner of two years – Isadora Cerullo to marry her.

Marjorie, a 28-year-old manager at Deodoro Stadium, took a microphone and delivered a moving speech before the couple embraced to applause.

She told BBC Sport: “As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special. I know rugby people are amazing and they would embrace it.

“She is the love of my life. The Olympic Games can look like closure but for me it’s starting a new life with someone. I wanted to show people that love wins.”

The couple live in São Paulo after Isadora moved there to focus on making Brazil’s women’s rugby sevens squad for the 2016 Olympic Games.
