«Take Me To Church» - response to the opposition to the LGBT community

Debutant of Irish indie pop scene, a native of Dublin, Andrew Hoze Bern (better known simply as Hozier) shot a video for the song «Take Me To Church», presented in the summer 2013 as a part of the debut EP performer.

Soon, this song and video clip became an internet sensation. The authors of the black-and-white video are Brendan Canty and Conal Thompson (Brendan Canty & Conal Thomson) of production company Feel Good Lost, working with such artists as AlunaGeorge, Zero7, Keep Shelly in Athens and others.

The theme of the clip is the homophobia; as Hoze says «Take Me To Church» is a dedication to the representatives of sexual minorities in Russia, who suffer from organized persecution by society and the State.

“This video is a response to the growing militant opposition to the LGBT community, harassment, and persecution of gays and lesbians in Russia, which became the result of an organized political campaign of repression against dissidents – says the artist. The song is about human nature and religious dogma, pounding the man in the narrow confines. What is happening in Russia can only be described as a nightmare. I shared my thoughts with Brendan and he liked the idea to make a video on this topic”. You can watch the following video clip «Take Me To Church».
