Mermaids, a UK-based charity which supports trans and gender diverse children, launched a 24-7 crisis text service on Monday (27 May).
‘If you’re experiencing a personal crisis, are unable to cope and need support, just text “Mermaids” to 85258’ a statement from Mermaids said.
‘A trained Crisis Messenger Volunteer will introduce themselves, reflect on what you’ve said, and invite you to share at your own pace.’
‘You’ll text back and forth, only sharing what you feel comfortable with’.
The new service complements existing web chat, email, and weekday telephone counseling services.
It was launched in partnership with Shout, a crisis text service launched by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
