Gay streaming site Dekkoo wins distribution rights to ‘sexy, offbeat’ Finnish drama
Sponsored: Gay streaming site Dekkoo is adding the year’s most hotly-anticipated LGBTI film to its lineup.
The breakout service won all distribution rights to the Finnish gay drama Screwed (or ‘Pihalla’) last week.
The film focuses on a summer of sexual experimentation between two handsome 17-year-olds, Miku and Elia.
‘Sexy, offbeat and throughly refreshing’
Dekkoo President Brian Sokel, Screwed director Nils-Erik Ekblom and producer Tom Norrgrann Terms brokered the terms after the film’s premiere at San Francisco LGBTI film fest Frameline.
‘Frameline is thrilled to have provided the world premiere showcase for Screwed,’ Frameline Senior Programmer Peter L. Stein told Gay Star News.
‘It offers a sexy, offbeat, and thoroughly refreshing take on coming of age,’ he added.
‘We couldn’t be more pleased for the filmmaking team that they’ve concluded a distribution partnership while here at Frameline.’
He furthermore added: ‘We congratulate Dekkoo for spotting this unique film in our lineup and giving it a much deserved platform for thousands of viewers across the country.’
‘An example of the resurgence of new queer cinema’
Screwed is a beautifully-shot movie that’s been praised for its authenticity. This is perhaps due to writer-filmmaker Ekblom’s decision to base it on his own personal experience.
Meanwhile Sokel said Screwed is ‘truly an example of the resurgence of new queer cinema at its most forward-thinking and affecting.’
‘A passionate and dedicated audience’
Finally, Nils-Erik Ekblom commented: ‘Only Dekkoo could offer us such unique home video distribution. A streaming platform dedicated to gay cinema, Dekkoo’s the perfect place for Screwed to instantly reach a passionate, dedicated audience.’
Dekkoo will release the film via its online platform and home video in the first quarter of 2018.
