A recent survey provided by the Centers for Disease Control concluded – more and more Americans now identify themselves as bisexual. And one more thing – more heterosexual and bisexual men experienced sex with other men.
More than 9,000 people from the United States aged 18-44 took part in this survey. According to the results of this survey, recording their types of sexual experiences, people identified themselves as gay, straight, or bisexual, and the types of people they’d had sexual contact with.
CNN reported:
Higher numbers of both women and men identified as bisexual, 5.5% of women and 2% of men, compared with 3.9% and 1.2% respectively in the last survey.
Women were also more likely than men to report having same-sex sexual contact. Compared with 17.4% of women, only 6.2% of men said they had ever had this activity.
LGBTQ Nation added:
A bit of basic math: If 1.9 percent of men said they were gay and 2 percent said they were bisexual — but 6.2 percent said they had engaged in same-sex sexual activity — that means 2.3 percent of men engaging in same-sex sexual activity are straight. Or at least straight-identifying.
The expert in human sexuality Debby Herbenick said “This research could provide valuable feedback to help improve public health initiatives.”
“There are real effects when you find out what people are doing sexually that can translate into safer sex, sex education, (and) informing doctors and nurses (about) what people are doing so they can talk with them in more informed and compassionate ways,” she concluded.
