It turns out when it comes to breaking gender norms, both adults and school boys are getting in the action in hot weather.
Soaring temperatures have sent the UK and France sweating, with temperatures up to 38C.
In the western city of Nantes, the bus drivers’ union CFDT said their uniform that includes trousers was ‘not appropriate’ for such high temperatures.
‘Given that skirts are an authorised outfit in the company, we are wearing skirts,”‘one driver told the local Presse Océan site.
Union official Gabriel Magner added: ‘A modern outlook would allow us to wear long shorts from time to time.
‘This is a form of discrimination…And given we have no air conditioning on our buses, it’s unbearable.’
And in Devon, England school boys at an Exeter academy reacted in the same way.
Around 30 boys wore skirts to school in protest at being told they were not allowed to wear shorts.
Head teacher Aimee Mitchell said shorts were ‘not part’ of the school uniform, according to Devon Live.
Mitchell said: ‘We recognize that the last few days have been exceptionally hot and we are doing our utmost to enable both students and staff to remain as comfortable as possible.
‘Shorts are not currently part of our uniform for boys and I would not want to make any changes without consulting both students and their families.
‘However, with hotter weather becoming more normal, I would be happy to consider a change for the future.’
One mum of an older teen said: ‘One of the boys did get in trouble today – because it was too short.’
