It has already been a remarkable year for Lil Nas X. He has a long-reigning candidate for 2019’s song of the summer, he subtly came out in a (frankly cryptic) series of social media posts and, now, he’s locked up three of the top-10 spots on Rolling Stone‘s brand new Top 100 Chart.
The new Rolling Stone charts (stylized “RS Charts”) debuted this week, dated June 21st through 27th, as the magazine explained in a July 2 post. In this first week, Lil Nas X’s presence was surely felt as the “20-year-old genre-crossing artist” dominated the Top 100 Chart, tracking the highest-impact singles across the country. As Rolling Stone explained of the chart’s methodology:
For the first edition, the Top 100 includes three songs by Lil Nas X among the top 10 singles alone: the ubiquitous “Old Town Road” at No. 1 (where it remained on Billboard’s competing Hot 100 as well, 17 weeks in); his new single “Panini,” at No. 4; and the Cardi B-featuring “Rodeo,” at No. 9. Further down the list, he scored a fourth entry in the list, with “F9mily (You & Me),” at No. 97.
Other familiar artists making the top 10 in Rolling Stone included Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s new single “Señorita” (No. 2) and Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” (No. 6).

As Rolling Stone bluntly remarked, “The only recently released song in the Top Ten not by Lil Nas X belongs to Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who debuted at Number Two with ‘Señorita.’” Given that high debut for Mendes and Cabello (again, nearly matched at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week), the months-long command of the charts by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” might be at risk of displacement.
Given the artist’s ongoing European travels—and his newfound openness, along with the support of fans and several notable fellow celebs alike—we hope he’s none too bothered and doing splendidly.
