Willam has seemingly confirmed two upcoming spin-offs of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
The former contestant – who made her iconic debut on the fourth season of the Emmy Award winning series back in 2012 – revealed the news on her podcast with fellow Drag Racer, Alaska Thunderfuck.
When Alaska asked Willam if the newly announced Drag Race Canada was legit, the latter responded: “I think so, as far as I know there’s other Drag Race things happening, like I’ve heard that there’s a Drag Race Juniors and a Drag Race Celebrity too.”
Expect our own dream cast list for Drag Race Juniors to come in the near future…
Last week, RuPaul and World of Wonder confirmed that the queens of the North will receive their own version of the iconic drag competition, with casting beginning this summer and production due to start in Ontario this fall.
The press release for Drag Race Canada describes the show as mixing “elements of the classic fan-favorite, with a healthy serving of Canadian maple shade, and, likely, some Canadian bacon.”
The Blue Ant Studios-produced series will have ten one-hour episodes and will debut on Bell Media-owned streaming services Crave and OUTtv. There’s no word so far on who will host, but we have a feeling it won’t be RuPaul…
In a statement, she said: “The panel and judges will be from the Great White North, representing Canada’s very best. This new franchise has my whole-hearted blessing. Good luck… and don’t puck it up!”
A premiere date is yet to be announced, but trust us when we say we’ll keep you updated on all things Drag Race Canada.
The news comes just a few months after the original version of the series welcomed its first Canadian queen into the werkoom: Brooke Lynn Hytes. The legendary queen won three main challenges and placed runner-up.
Will Brooke appear in some capacity? It would be slightly odd if they didn’t involve her somehow.
Canada isn’t the first country to host a spin-off of the Emmy Award winning reality competition. Last year, Drag Race Thailand debuted to acclaim from fans, but it didn’t see the return of RuPaul or Michelle Visage.
A British spin-off will also premiere later this year – with Ru and Michelle. They will be joined by comedians such as Alan Carr and Graham Norton, with guest stars such as Andrew Garfield, Michaela Coel, Jade Thirlwall and Geri Halliwell.
