For the first time in Canada’s history, the rainbow pride flag has been raised at the Parliament Hill. The initiative was Justin’s Trudeau, who was invested at Prime Minister of Canada last year.
Trudeau is a fierce supporter of the LGBT community and integrated anti-discrimination campaigns into his program. To celebrate the beginning of Pride Month, Trudeau raised a pride flag at the Parliament Hill. Other MP’s participated at the unique event in the history of Canada.
“This is a great day for Canada and it is part of a long series of milestones this country has hit over the years.
“It hasn’t been easy, it hasn’t been automatic. A lot of people fought for a long time for this day and for the many days that led up to this day to happen,” Trudeau told the crowd.
He marked the event in a post on Facebook that wrote: “Raising the Pride Flag on Parliament Hill for the first time in Canadian history. June 1, 2016.”
Trudeau will participate at the pride parade held today in Canada and he will be the first Prime Minister of Canada to do so. He has previously participate, but as an opposition MP.
