Everything is bigger in Texas, even the homophobia.

A Christian daycare rejected a child’s admission after they found out that the child’s parents, a lesbian couple, were married.

According to the New York Daily News, Brittney and Stacey Ready were first excited when they initially heard that their youngest child Callie had been accepted into the daycare program at the Parkview Christian Academy in Waco, Texas. The family was then rejected after the school’s administrators found out that Callie had two moms.

Brittany then took to Facebook to share the news in protest.

Brittney explains that the director of the program was “super sweet and welcoming” the first time he met them. But things changed after the family left the first meeting.

“We go to leave with paperwork in hand only for the administrator to call us into his office to let us know that he heard that Stacey and I are ‘mates,’” she said.

The school defends its action of revoking acceptance with “bylaws” centered on “Christian-based faith.”

“So does that mean ‘unwed parents’ cannot enroll their kids? Does that mean ‘divorced parents’ cannot enroll their children there? Because sin is sin and Jesus sat and welcomed allllll the sinners,” wrote Brittney Ready.

“We were not trying to plague your daycare sir, WE ARE GAY, our daughter IS NOT! Never in my life have I had this happen,” she continued.

“Our child born in a catholic hospital, at the hands of a Christian doctor, our innocent child of God. I am glad God was on our side and let the true colors show before my baby was subjected to their discriminating beliefs,” she added.

Ironically, the couple had chosen the school because they wanted a Christian education for their daughter, as they told KCEN-TV.

“If that’s what they stand for, that’s what they stand for, but make it known that’s what you stand for. And remember, at the end of the day that everyone’s human,” Brittney told the station.

“We speak to our children about being a Christian, and we speak to them about God and about what the Bible says — even about what the Bible says about same-sex couples,” Stacey added.

This story reminds us of many other situations where children have been punished for the fact that they are raised by same-sex couples. For instance, Jami and Krista Contrearas have become the faces an anti-discrimination campaign after a doctor refused to treat their six-day-old baby. When the couple went to a primary care pediatrician to get a check-up, the doctor left and a different one entered the room to say, “I’m going to be your doctor, your doctor prayed on it and decided she won’t see you all today.”

Then, there are multiple cases of Christian-based adoption agencies refusing to help same-sex couples adopt kids because of their religious beliefs. Thus, several kids have been left in the system when there were perfectly healthy and happy couples wishing to adopt or foster them.

Despite the recent rejection, there was a silver lining in the Readys’ story. After the public learned of Parkview’s rejection, the Readys received multiple acceptance offers from other daycares in the area.
