Billy Porter has no doubt snatched our wigs with his incredible looks that he’s been rocking for years, especially over the past couple of months.
We all remember Glenn Close’s hilarious reaction to seeing him in his Christian Siriano gown at the 2019 Academy Awards in February. He’s also been consistently killing it at many other ceremonies, several of which he’s been nominated at for his critically acclaimed role as Pray Tell on the groundbreaking F/X series Pose.
Billy shut it down in so many ways, fashion wise, at the 2019 Met Gala earlier this month. Jaws collectively dropped all over the world when he showed up as a glistening Egyptian Sun God. He was also carried inside by several shirtless men, only adding to the “OMFG” feeling we all had after witnessing such an incredible display of talent and execution.
So what was The Met Gala truly like for him and who was his favorite celeb that he met while there? I chatted with the Tony Award winner about this and what’s to come on the second season of Pose on the 2019 GLSEN Respect Awards red carpet, which took place at Cipriani’s 42nd Street in New York City on Monday, May 20.
Held annually in Los Angeles and New York, the award show honors the work of student leaders, educators, community organizers, influencers, and corporations who serve as exemplary role models and have made a significant impact on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth.

What can we look forward to the most for season 2 of Pose?
Pray Tell becomes an activist. That’s all the information you need to know! It starts the day that (Madonna’s) “Vogue” was released.
What was your Met Gala experience like earlier this month?
You know it was really, I mean it’s so surreal. It’s a place that I wanted to go to all my life. What I enjoyed was once you get inside, you know, it’s a really protected environment. So you get to speak and chill with these kinds of celebrities that you wouldn’t otherwise have real time with. It was really sweet and really nice.

Who was your favorite celebrity that you met that evening?
There are too many to name! I’ll just say Lady Gaga!
