Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon made it into the top six, with a performance of Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever.”
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon has shared the struggle he is going through with his parents not accepting that he’s gay, but the American Idol contestant was able to perform in front of them on the show for the first time on Sunday. His take on Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever” brought them to their feet, as well as the rest of the audience, as well as the judges.
Harmon has now made his way into the final six singers in the competition.
“You really embodied the spirit of Freddie Mercury with that performance,” Katy Perry told him.
“It was so beautiful seeing you perform in front of your parents for the first time, and it’s so wonderful to see your journey, to hear about it, and to see your parents really come out here and support you, and accept you, and know it’s a come-as-you-are situation,” she added.
“There’s something you can’t teach,” said Lionel Richie. “It’s just called the ability to draw people in…Keep up the good work, and the best time to do it is in front of your parents.”
Harmon’s father, a pastor, called the performance “very powerful,” and said, after admitting he “wasn’t very objective,” that he thought his son “was the best one here.”
