After notoriously announcing that she would not be participating in a third Sex & The City film and torching bridges with Sarah Jessica Parker in one fell swoop, we have been clamoring to see what Kim Cattrall’s next act would be. I don’t think any of us ever predicted that it would be portraying the wife of the head of a Christian television network. Samantha Jones et tu?

Written and directed by The Help writer/director Tate Taylor, Filthy Rich is “based on the New Zealand series of the same name from Filthy Productions, is a southern Gothic family drama in which wealth, power and religion collide – with outrageously soapy results. As deadline.com/ summarizes the show, “When the patriarch of a mega-rich Southern family, famed for creating a wildly successful Christian television network, dies in a plane crash, his wife and family are stunned to learn that he fathered three illegitimate children, all of whom are written into his will, threatening their family name and fortune. With monumental twists and turns, Filthy Rich presents a world in which everyone has an ulterior motive – and no one is going down without a fight”.

A hybrid of Alexis Carrington and Tammy Faye Baker, Cattrall’s Margaret Monreaux is not only trying to maintain a hold on her husband’s Christian broadcast television legacy, but also maintain the facade of purity and conservatism that they have perpetuated; that is until her husband’s three illegitimate children emerged (after his untimely death) claiming their own legacy to his fortune and family.

After watching Cattrall portray the man-eater icon with a heart that Samantha Jones placed into television legend, we are eagerly anticipating if her new inhabitation of Filthy Rich’s Margaret Monreaux will prove just as iconic.
