Tom Forde, a priest at the Friary in Kilkenny compared LGBTQ people to zombies during his sermon which stunned the people attending the service, according to Attitude.
He prefaced this homily by saying that people may disregard what he says and then goes on to say that he likes zombies and then lists TV shows and movies that feature zombies. He described zombies as “physically alive but spiritually dead, morally rotten or at least infected.” He then said that it is easy to spot in people who we once thought of as a friend but instead is a fiend who is “full of anger, spite, malice, lust or pride” and “irrational behavior.”
It’s clear to see where this is going; he told parishioners that these behaviors can be seen “in the abuse of drugs and alcohol, in adultery, fornication, and homosexuality.” That’s right! He believes that gay people (among other groups) are spiritually dead and morally rotten. Great. Just what I want from someone who pledged their life to spread love and acceptance… He then goes on to say that the only way to stop zombies from infecting others is to shoot them in the head but I’m going to say that he wasn’t advocating for the murder of gay people but instead meant it in a metaphorical way.
Luckily the people attending this sermon realized how ridiculous his comments were and left the mass, which, in my opinion, is the right thing to do. People like this don’t deserve the attention that they get. Maybe by leaving, the parishioners set an example that comments that Forde shared are unacceptable. It is hypocritical to say that gay people are morally rotten while spouting such filth to a whole group of people.
