It looks like they’re having lots of fun there without me as they gear up for Pride. This past weekend, the crosswalks at Conti and Joachim Streets was repainted by local artists to celebrate the Port City’s LGBTQ community in honor of June for National Gay Pride Month. The group Rainbow Mobile is leading the charge.

What we liked about these sidewalks was that the group decided to upgrade the sidewalks in a way to honor the community as a whole, to bring eyes and attention to more than just the LGBT community but also to Mobile’s local music scene, Mardi Gras culture, and iconic azalea flower.

The painted crosswalks are only temporary, but we feel the rainbow theme and the incorporation of the other cultural aspects may help us get into the hearts and minds of more people, showing the LGBT community is not just a community on their own, but part of the greater Mobile culture.
