God’s Own Country is the movie that Call Me By Your Name fans had to answer to when talking with woke gay indie cinema insiders over the past few months, and while the acclaimed Brit flick is a must-watch in its entirety, today you can dip your tip into the water with the full nude and gay scenes! This January we checked out some stills from the movie, but today is the real freaking deal. And ya. This is a benevolent God.
While complaints inevitably surfaced calling out Call Me By Your Name as a panty tease unable to deliver the actual goods, the same cannot be said for God’s Own Country. Name took a less-is-more approach in portraying the sexual chemistry between two men – leading some to feel that openly gay director Luca Guadagnino succumbed to studio pressure to stomp out the physical aspect of yet another on-screen gay romance. The director of God’s Own Country, Francis Lee, definitely didn’t feel this pressure, and put his two main actors – Josh O’Connor (as Johnny Saxby) and Alec Secareanu (as Gheorghe Ionescu) – to werk on set in multiple steamy nude and gay scenes. Here’s a synopsis of the flick:
Spring. Yorkshire. Young farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path.
TL;DR, time to get to the hotness. Seriously though, this movie is widely critically acclaimed and was even nominated for a BAFTA Award, and is definitely worth checking out.
