In shock news, another American Pastor has been ranting about the evils of modern literature and movies, claiming that ‘Harry Potter’ is so evil, particularly thanks to “homosexual mentor” Professor Dumbledore, that parents should drown themselves instead of letting their kids read it.
Pastor Kevin Swanson, in a recent “extended rant”, appeared to claim that parents committing suicide by drowning was better than letting their kids read a fairly tame book about a boy wizard, and his gay professor who, let’s admit, was only gay out of canon.
Dumbledore’s sexuality never actually appears in the book. In 2007, J. K. Rowling said that she’d always thought of Dumbledore as gay. Apparently this is enough to cause Sawnson to foam and spit, while also bemoaning the evils of homosexuality in general, and the “immoral themes” in country music.
While his comments on country music will be widely accepted by most music fans, but for altogether different reasons, Pastor Swanson has made something of a fool of himself on a number of occasions now. Last year he claimed that ‘Frozen’, ubiquitious Disney favourite, would actually turn children gay.
Quite how the children’s favorite would actually do this is another matter entirely – when a tool of the Lord speaks, who are we to question it?
If he “was the Devil” he’d have bought Disney back in 1984. Wait. That bit where we said that he’d advocated suicide? Actually he suggested murder. The full quote is thus: “it would be better that a millstone be hanged around [parents’] neck[s] and they be drowned at the bottom of the sea” than let their kids read Potter or watch Elsa warble in Frozen.
