Grammy Award-winning vocal group Pentatonix serves up their soaring take on “Waving Through a Window” from the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen.
Scott Hoying takes on lead vocal duties with Mitch Grassi and Kirstin Maldonado switch hitting, and band mates Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee giving percussive bass/beat box support.
Dear Evan Hansen opened to rave reviews on Broadway in December 2016, and is still selling out today. The Original Broadway Cast recording debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 in February 2017, the highest debut charting position for an original cast album since 1961.
“Waving Through a Window” has become a breakout song from the score, and been covered by several pop stars since Dear Evan Hansen’s debut, including Katy Perry and Rachel Tucker.
The show tells the story of an anxious, social outcast of a high school student who accidentally finds himself elevated in social circles due to a lie. He wants to clear the air, but fears losing his newfound status.
The show, and the song “Waving Through a Window,” have been adopted by many young LGBTQs who relate to the themes of isolation and feeling like they’ve “fallen in a forest and there’s nobody around.”

The multi-platinum selling group has dipped its toes in the Broadway catalogue a few times.
Band member Kirsten Maldonado joined the Broadway cast of Kinky Boots last year alongside Scissor Sister frontman Jake Shears.
The fab five also recorded a track for the concept album of Finding Neverland, and they dropped by the Wicked 15th anniversary special on NBC.
