Eddie the Eagle director Dexter Fletcher‘s Elton John biopic opened last weekend, garnering critical praise and a healthy opening-weekend box office of over $56 million worldwide.
Fletcher, who took over for Bryan Singer when the alleged sex criminal was fired from Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody, was recently asked by Gay Star News if he’d be interested in bringing another icon’s story to the screen. His answer: Well, Madonna, of course.

Rather aptly, he said he’s not sure how game The Queen of Pop would be for this, though:
About two years ago, Elyse Hollander‘s screenplay about Madonna’s early years titled Blonde Ambition topped the Black List, an annual list of well-liked but unproduced scripts in Hollywood. The script allegedly took some serious liberties with the real-life story of the Michigan girl’s rise to international fame. The picture was backed by Universal, but Madonna was quick to shoot it down–like, she really shot it down.
On Instagram, Madonna said: ”Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society.”
She eventually got even more personal, calling Hollander out by name, and saying the writer should stick to the tabloids and nothing else.
Frankly: best of luck trying to get any movie about Madonna made while Madonna is alive unless Madonna is steering the ship.
Fletcher and Taron Egerton clearly love working together. If Fletcher’s Madonna pic takes off, maybe Egerton should play Guy Ritchie.
