“Love is love!”
Sydney welcomed the arrival of equal marriage Down Under on January 9 with a public “Love Is Love” celebration at the city’s annual festival.
The date marked the first day same-sex couples could legally wed in Australia following Parliament’s passage of marriage equality in December.
In addition to a full schedule of Sydney Festival performers, guests were treated to a five-tier rainbow wedding cake and “Equality Time” gelato.

Though no actual weddings were performed at the Love Is Love reception, city leaders have promised to waive rental fees at all public venues for the first 100 days of equal marriage.
