Early on Saturday morning, 19-year-old William Gomez was thrown out of the historic Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, NYC while hanging out with his co-workers. Gomez returned at 4:30 a.m. and smashed the window of the Stonewall and left damaged that cost almost $7,000 to repair according to the NY Daily News. The Stonewall Inn is the site of the riots that started the LGBTQ rights movement and pride month observances.

Gomez, who is not gay and is expecting his first child with his girlfriend, was arrested near the scene and charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.

The attackers mother claims the Gomez was punched in the face by a bouncer before being thrown out of the venue.

His mother said:

He said that a bodyguard was messing with one of his coworkers and he told him to stop He then thought the conversation was over but at one point he was punched in the face. He’s a quiet boy. He doesn’t get into trouble.

The Stonewall Inn’s iconic window and neon sign were repaired within hours prior to re-opening at 2pm on Saturday.

Gomez is awaiting arraignment. He has been arrested multiple times in the past.
