Uber’s latest commercial features a gay man who discovers he’s sharing a ride with his longtime crush.
The spot, which debuted in the Philippines this week, is based on a true story, one recounted in a series of tweets by an Uber user who realized the guy he was sharing an UberPool with was someone he’s been pining over for years.
Uber has taken some hits in recent months, with complaints about drivers’ rights. But the company has made an effort to reach out to the LGBT community: After the Pulse shooting in Orlando, Uber offered free rides to and from gay clubs and community centers in cities across the country.
