Hollywood has come a long way when it comes to equal representation. Whether its cowboys, surfers, policemen, or regular everyday guys, movies have the ability to show that love is universal, no matter the gender.

Wet Hot American Summer – Bradley Cooper and Michael Ian Black
Aside from its ‘old-school cool’ retro wardrobe and cult classic status, there’s one major reason we love Wet Hot American Summer – its wet hot same-sex kissing. As the straight campmates tried to sneak a peek at the girls splashing in their bathing suits, Bradley Cooper and co-star Michael Ian Black snuck into the tool shed for an intense make out session that was followed by an even more intense sex scene.
Brokeback Mountain – Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger
Brokeback Mountain is quite possibly the most high-profile gay movie ever made, and with a big budget and a genuinely moving story, it remains a well-deserved gay favourite. And besides, any movie that lets us watch Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger make out is a win in our books.
Free Fall – Max Riemelt and Hanno Koffler
Before he engaged in multiple orgies in Netflix’s hit show Sense8, Max Riemelt starred in German movie Free Fall, which followed the blossoming romance between a married police officer struggling to accept his sexuality and his handsome colleague. There’s plenty of angst-filled love scenes to be found among the brooding and heartbreak.
Shelter – Trevor Wright and Brad Rowe
Shelter tells the story of Zach, a decidedly average twenty-something guy who lives in California, loves to surf, and has a failing relationship with on/off girlfriend Tori. When his best friend’s brother, Shaun, comes to visit for a few weeks, Zach begins to fall for him and must learn to come to terms with his sexuality. While there’s a number of hot and heavy scenes between the two, this awkward first kiss is the sweetest.
Weekend – Tom Cullen and Chris New
Can a romance really blossom over the space of one weekend? That’s the premise of this critically-acclaimed British gay drama, which stars Tom Cullen and Chris New as two men who meet and begin a sexual relationship the week before one of them plans to leave the country. It features some of the most realistic and raw sex scenes of any gay movie, and plenty of kissing to boot.
Y Tu Mama También – Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal
Long before he joined the Resistance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Diego Luna was in Alfonso Cuaron’s coming of age flick Y Tu Mama Tambien. Although he spent most of the film chasing the attention an older woman with his friend – played by the equally dashing Gael Garcia Bernal – in the final scene the boys let all inhibitions go and shared an intimately intense kiss. They almost forget that Maribel Verdu is knelt in front of them.
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower – Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller
While Logan Lerman’s Charlie is infatuated with Sam (played by Emma Watson) in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, his buddy Patrick (Ezra Miller) struggles with the break-up from his closeted football player boyfriend Brad. But in an emotional and impulsive moment, Charlie and Ezra lock lips. Charlie doesn’t freak out, but instead understands the pain his friend is going through. It’s a heartwarming moment and real highlight in the film.
Dude, Where’s My Car? – Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott
Who could forget the time Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott got way too competitive at the traffic lights in 2000 bromantic comedy Dude, Where’s My Car? Fabio took it all the way by kissing his lovely lady friend, but we declare the guys the ultimate winners here for their impassioned smooch. Those jawlines!
Little Ashes – Robert Pattinson sonf Javier Beltran
When he wasn’t all broody as Edward in the Twilight Saga back in 2008, Robert Pattinson was also portraying surrealist painter Salvador Dali in Little Ashes. The film centred around the artist’s gay love affair with Federico Garcia Lorca during the 1920s and 1930s, resulting in some passionate love scenes between R-Patz and his co-star Javier Beltran.
Naz and Maalik – Kerwin Johnson Jr and Curtiss Cook Jr
As with many coming of age movies that centre around gay teens, the narrative is usually driven with their struggle to accept who they are and, more importantly, who they are attracted to. But with Naz and Maalik, their stolen kisses down the back alleys of Brooklyn are being watched by an FBI agent, tasked with looking for Islamic Extremists. They are fighting both religious households that may not accept them for who they are, and an authority who have wrongfully profiled them.
Kill Your Darlings – Dane DeHaan and Daniel Radcliffe
Dane DeHaan and Daniel Radcliffe star in Kill Your Darlings, a movie that hit the headlines in 2013 when the boy from Hogwarts grew up. Harry Osborn and Harry Potter kissed – like, really!

King Cobra – Garrett Clayton, Keegan Allen and James Franco
Based on the murder of adult movie producer and director Bryan Kocis, King Cobra’s a story that has seen high media interest and even the release of a book, entitled Cobra Killer: Gay Porn Murder.
Disney star Garrett Clayton features as popular adult actor Brent Corrigan, alongside Keegan Allen and, of course, James Franco. And, as expected, it didn’t take long before the clothes came off and the boys started getting rather close…
Brideshead Revisited – Ben Whishaw and Matthew Goode
This big screen adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited tells the story of Charles Ryder and his infatuation with Lord Sebastian Flyte, their wealthy family and ancestral home, Brideshead.
It caused controversy online, with some suggesting the friendship between the pair has become distorted – no doubt their concerns with the movie became stronger when its star Ben Whishaw shared an intimate kiss on screen.
RENT – Wilson Jermaine Heredia and Jesse L. Martin
Angel and Collins’ relationship in movie-musical RENT is iconic. Not only for its brave and bold telling of a HIV+ love story, but for it’s ever-growing sense of fabulousness, too.
The pair, who regularly burst into song in Jonathan Larson’s Tony Award-winning show, move the musical from stage to screen alongside Wicked and Frozen star Idina Menzel.
With the likes of song I’ll Cover You, the openly LGBT+ couple also feature on the reprise of the joint love song — a moment in the movie that sent home the power of same-sex love to mainstream movie audiences. Viva La Vie Boheme!
