Charlie Carver from Teen Woolf comes out as gay

27-year-old Charlie Carver has come out as gay on his Instagram account. You may know Carver from Desperate Housewives where he plays the role of Lynette’s son, or from Teen Woolf. The young actor explained how he was constrained to stay closeted by the entertainment industry.

“As a young man, I needed a young man in Hollywood to say that — and without being a dick about it, I owe it to myself, more than anything, to be who I needed when I was younger.

“If I came out, I feared I would be limiting myself to a type, to a perception with limits that I was not professionally comfortable with,” Carver wrote.

The actor stated that he had come out to his family but he feared coming out publicly. However, he is grateful to those who made it easier for gay actors to come out.

“Things in this business have changed and will continue to. Thank GOD. I know that because of all of the brave men and women who’ve come out, self-identified, or couldn’t have possibly ever been ‘in.”

Charlie Carver pointed out that hiding your sexuality can be harmful, and silence can harm others too. He is proud and trough his message he encourages young men and women to be opened about their sexual orientation, mostly those with a career in the Arts.

“I now believe that by omitting this part of myself from the record, I am complicit in perpetuating the suffering, fear, and shame cast upon so many in the world. In my silence, I’ve helped decide for to you too that to be gay is to be, as a young man (or young woman, young anyone), inappropriate for a professional career in the Arts.”

Charlie has a twin brother, Max, who featured in Desperate Housewives as well. Charlie mentioned that his brother was straight.

“Let the record show my twin brother is just as cool for being straight,” he concludes.

Charlie Carver starred in 2014’s “I am Michael,” a story about ex-gay activist Michael Glatze. In the film, Carver shared a sex scene with two other men.

“We were in an attic in Long Island in the middle of the summer… and the air conditioning was broken… So it was just… uh, memorable?”
