Danish politician Joachim B Olsen is promoting his campaign in a unique way.
The 41-year-old former Olympic shot put silver medalist is now transitioning to a career in politics. He has been a member of the center-right Liberal Alliance party since 2011.
Ahead of Denmark’s 5 June general election, Olsen put an ad on Pornhub of a picture of him in a suit. The ad reads, ‘when you’re done wanking, vote for Jokke.’
‘Yes, it’s me on Pornhub,’ Olsen wrote on his Facebook page, confirming the advert.
Because of the ad, Olsen is now getting more media attention than his opposition, Rasmus Paludan. Paludan is the founder and leader of Denmark’s far-right, anti-immigrant party, Hard Line.
In response to this, Olsen said, ‘There is no limit to how far I will go for the nation. If it takes an ad on Pornhub to keep Rasmus Paludan out of the foreign media, I’ll take one for the team.’
Additionally, Olsen defended the ad in an interview with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation,
‘You have to be where the voters are,’ he said.
According to Olsen, his campaign is ‘95% serious’ leaving room for ‘a little fun.’
‘I hope people get a good laugh. I have received a very positive response to it,’ he said.
Olsen added: ‘I am well aware that some people are outraged. One cannot say anything today without people being outraged.’
‘Those who know me as a politician, they know I’m a serious politician. But I also have humor, and I think this is fun.’
