George Michael’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz ‘tried to wake the singer for more than an hour’, according to a leaked 999 call.
The singer’s partner discovered him dead on Christmas Day last year, after arriving to go to lunch together. While initial reports said the star had suffered a heart failure, a later post-mortem was inconclusive.
In the four minute tape, released by The Sun, Mr Fawaz is asked if the singer is “beyond help”, to which he replies “[he’s] dead”.
“I’ve been trying to wake him up for the last hour but it’s not possible. He’s gone. He’s blue. He’s cold.”
He is also heard confirming George Michael’s name and address to the ambulance service, and tells the handler he is shaking from the discovery.
Speaking after the star’s death last year, Mr Fawas said he would “never stop missing you”.
“It’s a Christmas,” he added. “I will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning.”
He also told The Daily Telegraph: “I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone, lying peacefully in bed. We don’t know what happened yet.
“Everything had been very complicated recently, but George was looking forward to Christmas, and so was I.
“Now everything is ruined. I want people to remember him the way he was – he was a beautiful person.”
South Central Ambulance Service has announced it will launch an investigation in to the leaked tape.
A spokesman added: “South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) has been informed about the release of the tape of a 999 call. We take matters of confidentiality very seriously and have launched an immediate investigation.”
