“A party in the park just for him, he’d be so impressed.”

On Sunday, May 28, hundreds of mourners gathered in Stockport to remember Martyn Hett, one of the 22 victims of last week’s bombing at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England.

Hett was a 29-year-old PR Manager from Stockport, a town outside of Manchester, who had appeared on U.K. shows such as Come Dine With Me. Aside from loving Grande, he was also a huge fan of Mariah Carey, who paid tribute to him on her Instagram last week.

During the vigil Hett’s mother Figan gave an emotional tribute to her son calling him an “iconic, fun, eccentric, diva” who was “comical beyond belief.”

“A party in the park just for him, he’d be so impressed,” she said. “And he deserves us all to be here, because he touched so many lives in so many ways. It’s due to all this love and kindness that I’m never going down the route of hate or anger at those responsible for what happened.”

“No one can ever take Martyn out of our lives.”

Hett was also a huge fan of the long-running U.K. soap Coronation Street and several cast members from the series were there including Shobna Gulati, who plays Sunita, who read a poem written by one of the show’s former writers.

Other mourners paid tribute to Hett including his brother, Dan, who wore a shirt with an illustration of Hett to the vigil and his friend Rob who sang “Till the End of Time” by Mariah Carey.

“Martyn taught me many things over the years, too many to mention,” Hett’s partner, Russell Hayward, told the crowd. “Never say no do the things you want to do, be fearless and be the person you’re meant to be.”

“The pain I felt when I found out the news this week completely tore my heart out, but I will not let that pain tear away any of our precious memories we’ve shared.”

“I feel robbed of my future but I feel so grateful for my past.”
