His name is Michael Nance, he is a family court judge in Kentucky and his specialization is children adoption. Everything was good until April 2017, when the judge issued an order, demanding all layers who represented gay parents to inform him of their sexual orientation. The purpose, according to his own words, was for him to be able to decline hearing the cases.
As Michael Nance declared:
The best interest of the child can never be promoted by the adoption by a practicing homosexual
Furthermore, he admitted that his position is supported by his deeply religious views on the matter and that:
The divinely created order of nature is that each human being has a male parent and a female parent
As expected, Michael Nance’s attitude infuriated a lot of people, including the LGBTQ community, which eventually led to his resignation shortly after. The accusations that he was placed under referred to violating the judicial ethics rules which, in and of itself, was enough to categorize him as unfit for occupying the position of judge.
What is more interesting is that Michael Nance’s lawyer defended him by claiming that what the judge did was right and fair to everyone, because:
His recusal would have facilitated the impartiality of the judicial system and ensured that all families had a fair opportunity for an adoption
With the judge having resigned, things can go back to normal now, although the whole story left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths.
