House passes measure to overturn Trump’s ban on transgender service members
The House of Representatives passed a measure today that would overturn President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender military service. It passed with bipartisan support.

Over the 4th of July holiday weekend you might’ve missed this piece of political news: This week, the U.S. House voted to defund Trump’s transgender military ban.
Politico.com reports, “During debate on a $1 trillion spending package, lawmakers voted 243-183 to adopt an amendment from Representative Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) to block funding to implement the new policy, which Democrats slammed as discriminatory and arbitrary.”

Democratic presidential candidate would erase dishonorable discharges for troops booted under DADT
Representative and Democratic presidential candidate Seth Moulton (D-MA) said that he would have the Pentagon review the dishonorable discharges LGB servicemembers received prior to being allowed to serve openly and possibly change them to honorable discharges.
Under Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (DADT), which was repealed in 2011, LGB people were not allowed in the military if they were out of the closet. Before DADT, LGB people were banned from the military.
