The movie comes out this fall

Coming out can be a scary and unknown thing, especially to close loved ones. That’s exactly what Chilean director Nicolás López explores in his new comedy Hazlo Como Hombre.

Raúl, Eduardo, and Santiago have been best friends since childhood. They play sports together, shower together, and discuss women together. But everything changes when Santiago tells his friends he’s gay.

Now, the friends have to confront multiple things, including Santiago’s new boyfriend and trying to ‘convert’ Santiago. It also asks the age-old question of how friendships evolve when something within them changes.

The trailer plays on a lot of tropes, which may or may not be handled well. However, it also has a lot of compassion for Santiago.

‘You can’t cure me because I’m not sick,’ he shouts at one point.

‘Listen to me, I’m just gay!’

The movie stars Alfonso Dosal, Mauricio Ochmann, Humberto Busto, Aislinn Derbez, and Ignacia Allamand. It comes out in the United States on 1 September.
