For the first time in history, Dancing with the Stars had a gay winner who is also deaf. Nyle DiMarco won the contest alongside his dance partner Peta Murgatroyd performing ‘the best dance I have ever seen … in 22 seasons,’ as Judge Carrie Ann Inaba revealed.
Carrie Ann described how DiMarco brought magic elements to his performance.
‘What was so profound about it is not only do I see a man who wants to prove that he can dance … but I also see a man that is proving he can change the world through dance.’
The talented dancer posted about his interpretation of Disturbed’s cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence.”
DiMarco’s reaction after winning was encouraging for the deaf community: ‘I really wanted to connect with the audience and teach them what it really means to be deaf.’
Nyle DiMarco is a true inspiration not only for the LGBT community, but also for every one of us.
