We have all been dreaming about such possibilities more than once, haven’t we? Every celebrity has a ton of admirers and their tumultuous lives are being constantly under scrutiny. Then once in a while rumors appear and we find out that some may be gay, unlike what we previously thought. Here are 10 of the most famous celebrities who were believed to be gay in the past:
- Daniel Radcliffe
Daniel has been an LGBT advocate for years and he has been considered gay more than once. He played the role of Allen Ginsberg, an American gay poet, in Kill your darlings and this is something that definitely fueled the rumors as the role fitted him like a glove. Plus, Daniel declared that he was never bothered by what people thought of him and that he actually felt flattered when he was considered a gay icon.
- Will and Jada Pinkett Smith
Their marriage was subjected to plenty of media coverage in the past years and they have heard all there is to be heard about them. They were considered both gay, swingers and even divorced. Furthermore, Will slapped a reporter that tried to kiss him on the lips while on the red carpet for the premiere of Men in Black 3. It was merely a love touch, let’s not overreact and this did not stop him from being a constant LGBT supporter.
- Matthew McConaughey
The rumors hit the spotlight during Matthew’s close friendship with cyclist Lance Armstrong, but this goes a long way into his past. Matthew declared that he has been considered a potential catch by both gays and lesbians alike and that he has always been supportive regarding homosexuals even since he was in high school. Regarding the speculations about his sexuality, Matthew stated: “Well, I’m really secure in my skin. I’m heterosexual, and I’m just fine with that. Those rumors have to make the round, and I know that I was a fun target for them”
- Joseph Gordon-Levitt
It is not that hard to see why this breathtakingly gorgeous actor has been the target for gay rumors in the past. This has been also fueled by his reluctance of clarifying the situation once and for all, as he declared that this is not set to happen too soon. “That would be really tacky. They (the media) would win if I had to clarify” That pretty much sums it all. Or does it?
- Rod Stewart
If you have ever heard of Rod Stewart, then you have definitely heard about that gay story that seems to be stuck with his biography. The legend goes that Rod participated in a gay party back in the 70s and that he ingested so much…manly fluid that he had to go to hospital to have his stomach pumped. Fortunately, Rod clarified the whole situation once and for all: “I used to have this guy work for me, he was a gay publicist. He is dead now so he might be watching. I had to fire him because he did something terrible, which I won’t go into. So he wanted revenge so he started this gay rumor about me, and it was horrible because my kids were at school. So that is definitely not true”
- Kevin Spacey
The Oscar winning actor was surrounded by gay rumors for years in a row and the reason for that is his completely opaque private life. No one knows anything about his love life and Kevin gladly maintained the situation as it is. “I am different than some people would like me to be. No one’s personal life is in the public interest” he declared. Also, when asked about his thoughts on gay bullying, he stated: “If we stop using sexuality as a weapon against people, maybe everyone will eventually get cool with it.”
- Vin Diesel
He could not miss our list, could he? Vin Diesel comes from the same area Kevin Spacey is from. He is determined to keep his life private no matter what and it is well known that he has an army of bodyguards concealing him whenever going on a date. He even declared that he enjoys more roaming through Europe, because people don’t know him so much in those parts.
- Ben Affleck and Matt Damon
Their close friendship has been long subjected to gay rumors and Matt eventually decided to declare that even the fact that he had to answer these rumors sounded offensive to him: “I don’t want to, like it is some sort of disease – then it is like I’m throwing my friends under the bus. Whether you are gay or straight, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play.”
- James Franco
“Well, I like to think that I’m gay in my art and straight in my life. Although, I am also gay in my life up to the point of intercourse, and then you could say I am straight. So I guess it depends on how you define gay. If it means whom you have sex with, I guess I’m straight. In the twenties and thirties, they used to define homosexuality by how you acted and not by whom you slept with. Sailors would f**ck guys all the time, but as long as they behaved in masculine ways, they weren’t considered gay.” Hopefully this pretty much sums it up for you. Confused? Yep, we all are.
- John Travolta
The world famous actor has been hitting the gay spotlights since 1980s and he is still involved in few lawsuits due to allegations of sexual assault on two guys. Travolta said that these gay rumors have been particularly offensive in his case, especially since they grew in intensity with the death of his son in 2009, when he has been discovered by Jeff Kathrein, supposedly Travolta’s lover. The actor later declared: “I felt like that was the lowest I’d ever felt. Sex stuff is always going to be interesting to somebody, but you stay away from family. You really should. With that, I always felt like the media – not all the media, but parts of it – went too low there.”
Gay or not? In some cases, the answer is pretty obvious, in others not so much. All we have to do is to keep dreaming and waiting to see what will happen next.
