I do not really care how my family is viewed in the society we live in, I am just happy to be raised by two of the most awesome dads in the world. I am Alice, age 16, and I have lived in an orphanage until the age of 4.
That is when Lawrence and John, my two present dads adopted me. It was only recently that they have told me about my situation and I am grateful that they did it now and not waited until I was in my late 20s or something. There are a lot of people denying homosexuals’ right to adopt children and I am not sure how well aware of the situation are those people. These people think that it is better for a child to live in an orphanage rather than in a gay family and I think that goes to show how ignorant they are. My life radically changed since these two loving men accepted me in their family and I couldn’t be any more grateful for that.
I have just found out who I am two weeks ago. My natural mom was a teenage drug addict and abandoned me soon after I was born. She just left me in the hospital and never came back for me. I never found anything about my father and I seriously doubt it she knew anything about him either. I have always heard about abandoned children that look for their natural parents once they reach adulthood, but I cannot see myself doing that. All my respect and admiration goes towards my actual parents, because I think that the real parents are those embarking in your education and your raise, not those that give you life and then deny any responsibility.
It is not that hard to have a child. It is, however, infinitely more demanding and difficult to raise the child and give him a proper education. It is called a sacrifice and I think that a parent that is unwilling to sacrifice his comfort for the sake of his child should not have one in the first place. Every one of us has the right to be happy and how can a kid grow in a positive and happy environment if those who brought him into this world desert him?
Lawrence and John have been my family for the past 12 years and I am more than grateful for this and I ever will be. Despite this, I still get bullied at school at times by people who don’t understand the situation and take it as a joke. I am here to tell you how much that hurts when you know that people who sacrificed themselves for the sake of a child are being practically bullied and refused basic rights.
Gays deserve the right to be parents, because every kid has the right to a good family and a proper education. I am not necessarily saying that gay people are the absolute perfect parents and the straight ones are undeserving. There are bad and good parents, regardless of the sexual orientation, but what happens today is pure discrimination, because it is considered that gays should not be allowed to raise children, regardless of how adequate they would be. And regardless of the child’s situation. Which is discrimination, period.
You want a fair society? Treat gays as any other human being. If straight people are allowed to adopt children based on a number of factors and neither of them includes the parents’ sexual orientation, this should be equally the case for gay individuals.
My two dads gave me the opportunity to live and grow in a happy and loving family and for me this is the most important thing in the world.
Really everyone should have parents like both of them
Beautiful!!
