The king of heartbreak returns to form.
Sam Smith just dropped the video for his new single, “Too Good At Goodbyes,” his first release since the 2015 Bond theme “Writing’s On the Wall.”
Directed by Luke Monaghan, the video sees a slimmed down Smith looking doleful in an empty house, and features other gay and straight couples in various stages of breaking up. Smith recently admitted he’s “still very, very single.”
“The song is about me and about a relationship that I was in,” he told Beats 1. “I think I’m even more single than I was when I released In the Lonely Hour… I’m insanely single.”
Reports have had Smith working on a followup to Lonely Hour with everyone from Adam Lambert to Clean Bandit. He says “Goodbyes” is a good indicator of what the new record will be like. “People are going to see this one, as I’ve said, is about me and something that I’ve gone through.”
